A Mass to honor the founding priest of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will be held on Sunday, October 8 at 10:30AM at Holy Trinity Church on the day of his death in 1873.
In 2023, the city of Shreveport is marking the 150th anniversary of the third-worst epidemic of Yellow Fever in United States history. The human toll was staggering: over 25% of the population died from the illness within a matter of weeks. The human suffering wrought in 1873 remains uparalleled to this day. Amid this tragedy emerged heroic virtue, exemplified in the lives of five priests who voluntarily and freely offered their lives for others and persevered with this determination unto death.
One of those priests was the founder of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Many, Father Francois LeVezouet. We would like to invite everyone to a day full of special events honoring Father LeVezouet and the other five Shreveport martyrs on the day of Father LeVezouet's death.
