Our new pastor, Fr. Francis Ngumi Kamau, is a co-founding member of the Franciscan Missionaries of Hope (Lyke Community). He is the third born of ten children: six boys and four girls. Both his parents, Lawrence Kamau, 92 years old and Mary Kamau, 84 years old, are still alive and well.
Fr. Francis was born, raised Catholic, and schooled in his native country of Kenya until he left home to go to the Seminary, thirty-two years ago. He was ordained a priest 18 years ago.
He has been superior general of his congregation, has trained young men who joined the congregation, and has been pastor in two parishes for the last 15 ½ years, both in America—St Mary of the Pines, 8 ½ years, and Kenya, 7 years.
His hobbies include dancing, watching movies, swimming and fishing. He also likes to eat and has problems controlling his weight. Father Francis is a trained substance abuse counselor. He has lived in Shreveport for 11 years.
Fr Francis Kamau is excited about his new position as pastor of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Terence. He is eager to meet and know each and everyone in Many and in the Sabine Parish area.
